[Olpc-uk] Marketing - OLPC UK Mission

Dom's just shared his design with me. Those of you who have seen it will agree I'm sure that it's really nice.

He's also started planning what content is going to be on the site and created a skeleton site map.

The next step is to start getting a fairly consise list of content that will be going onto it, with some responsibility's attached of who is going to write it. I would like to compile a spreadsheet that tracks the planned content, responsibility, assets needed (images, video), etc.

There are a few core areas of content the site will need:

About
Educators
Developers
OLPC Library and Repairs
Get Involved
Case Studies
News

Any volunteers for helping out with one of these sections? Initially just to get an idea of what will be in them. Or even just general thoughts and ideas around the website content. If you do then please either send it to the list, straight to me, or if you're in central London I'm happy to meet up for a coffee/beer to discuss ideas.

The sooner we have the site-map fleshed out the better as Steve can then start the implementation of Wordpress.

I also want to ensure that we start the site with a well thought out structure so that it can evolve cleanly (both using Wordpress and if it is moved to a more advanced content management system in the future).

If any of this is being worked on already then let me know. I'm pretty new to the project and don't want to step on anyone's toes.

Thanks all,

Phil

Thanks Dom,

How much input has the group given as to the content everyone expects will exist on the site?

Hi Dom (and all),

I’m happy to help with planning for the site. I’ve been doing lots of this type of stuff in my job recently so could hopefully bring some useful skills into the project.

I’ve no idea where you’re up to with this already. Did you mention a Basecamp account this was being planned in?

Thanks,

Phil

Good afternoon everyone,

I think it an important thing to define what OLPC UK is trying to achieve. Most importantly, defining a mission ( or for the anti marketing among us – about us / what we do) will assist in ensuring consistency of message across all public media about what it is that OLPC UK is trying to achieve.

The mission is aimed at why do you want to be involved, why would you like OLPC UK to succeed? Simply from collating this from all interest parties we can ensure the organisation is designed to achieve the aims of all members – and ensure the public receive a consistent, professional message from all media.

It would be great if everyone could take 5 minutes to put one line together answering these questions to ensure this organisation is moving in the right direction.

Regards,

Michael Jordan
