Setting expectations are really important. Last spring there were lots of XOs being auctioned on eBay - that is how I got mine.<br><br>Another "selling" strategy could be - Give 1 to the central program that is destined for a developing country, Give the second one to a local group that will pass it along to kids in need close by. Perhaps even offer sessions so donors could come and see what they are buying/donating and how it can be used by these kids.<br>
<br>Lots of people are interested enough ot participate in the G1G1 program, but don't actually want or need the second one. Or maybe want to see what all the fuss is about, and then want it to go to a good home.<br><br>
Any suggestions for making that process work would be really helpful.<br><br>It was clear that lots of people got one, realized they didn't want or need it, but didn't have a good way to pass it along, once they made that discovery. This could be a great opportunity for everyone.<br>

I think public library children's sections, especially around story time and<br>
after school. Offer to do a special program for after school programs at<br>
public schools, aimed at early graders. Have a stack of flyers for them to<br>
take to their parents.<br>

I would start with a simple update to the current trifold and<br>
one-sheet introductions at [[Flyers]] that mentions g1g1 -- everyone's<br>
been asking for this.<br>

having a batch of laptops that people can use to learn Sudoku or<br>
Bridge would be a nice exercise. Walking through the intro to etoys<br>
likewise. I'm still unhappy with yoshiki that the Castle level of<br>
that intro hasn't been made...<br>

My experience tells me that younger kids are fascinated by chat (if there<br>
are multiple xos) and record, and they like the cartoon builder, speak, and<br>
the puzzles. I just upgraded my xos to the new release -- sadly, my day job<br>
and family issues intervened -- and am systematically trying the latest<br>
versions of activities. I plan to try my theory out in my kids' old k8<br>
school and our local library. As a Life Member of Girl Scouts and an ex<br>
leader, I thought of offering to come to assorted Brownie and Junior<br>
meetings as well. But we'll see how the first few go. I feel that we are<br>
still not quite production quality for unsupervised use by very young kids,<br>
and older kids here in Silicon Valley may be too jaded by having fast, new<br>
computers at home.<br>

I want to offer a parent-child meet-up so that parents know what they are<br>
getting this time and there isn't so much aggravation. I'd like to set up a<br>
dual boot with the other boot being Debian or Ubuntu with media codecs and<br>
Skype installed, to show its utility as a mobile laptop to the parents.I<br>
also think we need to emphasize the "Give 1" half of the equation.<br>
