[OLPC-SF] OLPC-SF Digest, Vol 55, Issue 5

Hey Bruce and everyone!
It sounds to me like the 500 XOs in Ethiopia are simply bricked. The
explanation and fix can be found here: http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Fix_Clock

They will need a serial adapter available from ilovemyxo
http://ilovemyxo.wordpress.com/category/replacement-parts-accessories/

(well to do 500, maybe more than one, in order to set up an assembly line
to disassemble, debrick, reassemble and then reflash to the latest build.)
But first they should do one or two to confirm that this is indeed the
problem.

I had a robotics club of four 13 year olds here for a community service
project last month. They did 55 re-donated and earmarked for Haiti in one
day!

I haven't had time to get my own blog entry up about their work yet. That's
coming soon.

I can Skype with someone from Ethiopia and help them do the first 1 or 2,
so that they can teach others, if we schedule it ahead of time.

If necessary or preferred, some of our Alearn Consulting Team may be
available to come coordinate the repairs on site in Ethiopia, but our
expenses would have to be covered. (I would come myself, but I don't think
I'd be available until March or April 2013.)

For sure, the volunteer community will help however we can. It pains me to
hear that there are 500 XOs that could be in the hands of children and are
not!
Best,
Nancie
