Subject: [OLPC library] Book Server v 0.01 -- offline reading with a
Sheeva Plug & Pathagar server
To: OLPC Library list <library at lists.laptop.org>

Dear library lovers,

There has been some recent work on making archives of digital works
easier to use and share, both online and offline.  The OPDS 'book
server' standard for sharing an archive of books (and other media) has
grown up, and has many programs and apps that support it.  Some OLPC
hackers have developed a simple implementation of it, called Pathagar
(thanks, Sayamindu!).  And Uruguay may soon be implementing a
bookserver on all of their school servers.

Recently Sameer Verma of OLPC-SF has set up a bookserver build that
he's deploying as a standalone appliance in a small school in India
with computers for their children:

Contributions to Pathagar and bookreading clients like Get Books, and
contributions of archives and book suggestions, are both welcome.
We'll be using this list for related discussions in the coming weeks.

Sam.
