Hi Sameer, Robert, Carol Ruth,
By copy to Serge, I will be in HCMC for FossAsia. Will yiou be there? Can you perhaps help with # 1 below?

Yes, the OLPC SF Summit did enliven us! I have a question and maybe a solution for Carol Ruth on the OS.

1. My question: Who is the lego robot guy and how do I contact him? I will be visiting Elaine Negroponte's project in Cambodia the week of Nov. 14. She says she brought 8 lego robot kits that are supposed to work with the XOs and was hoping I would be able to help them figure it out.

I don't know the etoys Activity. Perhaps someone can send me clear instructions for a very simple beginner Activity with the Lego Robots and if we can get that working then they'll be able to figure it out?

Thanks. I appreciate any suggestions.

2. Carol Ruth, When I debricked old G1G1's and tried to upgrade to 11.2.0, I perhaps had a similar firmware issue.

A. After reflashing I got the name screen byt the touchpad and keys were frozen, didn't work. Richard Smith suggested that, at that point, first try to this: Power off with the power button. Unplug the laptop. AND Remove the battery. Leave it for a few minutes. Then turn it back on.

Sounds simple but it worked for me. If you have a similar issue. do try that first.
B.
Or were you not able to get the update to install at all?
I had that problem too. The XOs had the original oldest build and home screen after debricking. I tried flashing from a usb drive to intermediary builds first. They did not take 10.3. This is what worked: Download the 2 files for 8.2.1 on a clean usb drive. Flash to that build. Then from 8.2.1, with another clean USB with 11.2.0 on it, reflash again. That's what worked and then I got the frozen key/screen problem, then removed power & afterwards everything worked!

Hope this helps! I'm in Bangkok on wireless with my XO. If you want to paste the OS tips above into an email for the support gang, please do so. Sorry, I don't have time to do it today.

Thanks in advance for any contact info or tips on the lego robots!

Warm regards to all of you! Nancie

The Summit should have enlivened us! It did me.

Robert, will you help me upgrade to the new OS at the meeting on the

12th? I tried, but as usual, was defeated by the tech challenges.

Something about firmware . . . I plan to bring my XO.

Also on agenda should we have a discussion of the Sugar election, which

some of us have been trying to understand?

Regards,

Carol Ruth Silver
