Greetings OLPC-SF!

Wishing you all a happy new year!

OLPC e-mail queues have been clogged with queries about the mythical XO-3,
but we have the very real XO 1.5 to focus on. With Sugar and GNOME to
address different use cases, 1.5 should be interesting.

So, we'll meet on January 16, 2010. Location to be announced (by Monday).
This meeting will also mark two years of OLPC-SF. http://is.gd/5Y2FN Mark
your calendars, and bring your enthusiasm and queries.

WHAT AN ASTOUNDINGLY GOOD PRESENTATION!!!!!!!!!!!

I BOUGHT FROM THE FIRST BATCH OF G1G1 XO'S.    BUT I AM STILL A FAIRLY  
NEW USER OF THE XO.

Your slide presentation is so good that it has answered a lot of my  
questions about  the XO project and especially about related  
subjects.........
         like Sugar-on-a-stick  , FLOSS,  etc.   Ands if you didn't  
already answer a questions, you gave me the reference to find the  
answer.

So, we are all set for tomorrow's meeting. We have Carol Ruth Silver's talk
on OLPC and individual liberty. She is also the newest member of the OLPC
support gang, but I'll let her fill you all in on that.

Apart from the usual updates, hackery, etc. I'll also bring two candles and
a cake...its our second birthday after all!!!

Join us. bring a friend. Bring your kids. Bring food, if you'd like to share
with others. Let's gear up for a busy and happening 2010.

  Dear all,

We are delighted to announce the release of the version #5 of SocialCalc
activity on Sugar. We have introduced a number of features in SocialCalc on
Sugar since the last community release -


1. *Localization* in Spanish, Afrikaans, Hindi, Japanese, Arabic, Russian,
Chinese (simplified), French, German and Portuguese.
2. *Ability* to *read* and *edit *single sheet Excel .xls files.
3. *Sharing* of activity over the mesh network.
4. *Ability* to *read* and* edit* single sheet Lotus notes.
5. *Optimization* of the* save files*. The sheet extents will include just
the part that has data. This feature also "canonicalizes" the saved data in
other ways, such as removing no longer used formats and color definitions
from the save file.
6. *Localization* made *easy*, especially of text in the user interface. All
of the text that is normally seen during operation is now easily localizable
by changing a single file, socialcalcconstants.js.
