Dear Sameer and OLPC-SF,

Carrying a suitcase full of XO-1's, I am off to Afghanistan again in
three days, at the invite of Mike Dawson, who believes that the Tipping
Point may be near on our efforts to place the XO in Community Based
Schools in rural Afghanistan. (Other names for such “schools” are home
schools, literacy centers, literacy projects, and orphanages, none of
which are able to attract the attention and very limited funding of the
Afghanistan Ministry of Education.)

I plan to be at our meeting on Saturday, and will be glad to offer an
update on Afghanistan if you are not bored with my blathering on the
topic.

I will also hopefully be bringing with me a technology-based learning
expert from California State University – East Bay (Hayward), who is
intereste in use of the XO to bring education to the unschooled.

He has also warmed the cockles of my heart by taking an interest in the
Mullah Nasrudin project. This is the proposal to use this 14th century
Afghan historical figure as the Avatar to deliver letters of the Farsi
alphabet, along with a bite-sized homily on some health-related topic
which begins with that letter.

I notice from the Support Gang emails that this Saturday is supposed to
be a Sugar debugging day. Is that what you intend to use the day for?
Please let me know, as I should probably then dis-invite myself.

Best regards,

Carol Ruth Silver
