Yes.  I, or some other sponsoring member, needs to be present.

Hmm... If I am setting up a new meeting plan, I'd probably start with
a simple BringYourOwnLaptop for Python hacking and Sugar source.
Perhaps with lots of handholding.  Ed, last I ran into him, does not
do any coding, so might not be the best cohort.   If this is a 'status
and culture' slideshow, then I can work with him.
