I agree with James on this:

"Also, I try to stay out of religious discussions and I think we should, too"

--->>> So maybe the inclusive clause should probably be massaged or just taken out
all together. Just a caveat: "Filipino Youth" was changed to "children of the Philippines"
because we now have a growing immigrant population. "Children (18 and under in the Philippines)" vs.
"Youth" because Youth has a political connotation and can still also apply for 18 & 35 (I hope, I
still feel youthful) yrs. age group.
.
I would like to keep "Open source" in the language. Sugar is open source and so are its applications.
At the risk of angering publishing companies, I will also mention that there's now a push for e-textbooks
(open source) that are interactive with the sugar Apps. Though it's still in its infancy/planning stage one can see the potential
for providing content to cash strapped barrios/communities in the Philippines. So say if a child
is reading about the national hero Jose Rizal, activity suggestions are within the text to guide them into
critical thinking: "What does it mean to have freedom? What if people don't have it? Go to one of these activities to do a storyboard or collaborate with a friend on an essay".

James I also tried to do a search on the web for Sugar vs. Windows articles but didn't find anthing with a compelling discussion that I would recommend. But the XO works really well with Sugar because it's hardware lightweight, it's free, and it has the collaboration program built in that works really well with XOs mesh network. Some of the apps (like Squeak Etoys) also run on Windows, but you'd have to pay for royalties to run the OS. Those are the things I can see of the bat, but perhaps Caroline can chime in on this.
Living here on Leyte and being part of the Rotary where we deliver paper and
pencils to school children who study in schools with no electricity ... I'm
a little more pragmatic.

Also, I try to stay out of religious discussions and I think we should, too.
"Open source" is meaningless in this context. Let's just cut it out
altogether.

Change ... oh my, don't get me started. My elections (US) were just all
about change. That word bears little meaning for me at the moment.

As a father, I can tell you that we transform nobody. We can only prepare
them. :)

Our vision is to prepare Filipino youth to be productive and meaningful
members of society through the innovative and creative application of
technology. In doing so, our nation's youth will be able to face an
ever-shrinking and increasingly competitive world, better able to adapt to
better their lives, those of their families, and those of their countrymen.
yourorganization, share and discuss?!

Hey guys,

This is your organization and we want to include you as much as possible
as we continue to define who we are. Our vision and values will be our
guiding light as we move forward. It will differentiate us from other
organizations, and will set our priorities for the future. So please chime
in and offer your thoughts. At the end, I will try to draft a vision
statement that will include your input!

Vision Statement

What is your vision for the organization? 5 or 10 years down the line,
what desired outcome do you want to see as a result of our hard work? What
does our success look like? Our vision will be our guiding light as we move
forward in the next few years, so please chime in?! Below is a draft:

Our vision is to transform Filipino youth into 21st century learners, who
are digitally literate, critical thinkers, and productive members of society
through open source innovations in technology and learning. In doing so,
learners will be better prepared to tackle the challenges of an increasingly
competitive job market and globalised world as well, as become an agent of
change towards the betterment of themselves and their communities.

Values

Values are beliefs that are shared among the stakeholders of an
organization, which will drive our culture and priorities. It will also set
us apart from our other organizations working in the Philippines. Please
share your thoughts. Below are sample values:

a. Inclusiveness - Our technology and learning approach should be
available to all regardless of race, class, gender, ethnicity, and religion.
[These are to ensure that religious minorities, indigenous people, and other
minority group are given access.]

b. Free and Open Source
