Hi Hamilton,

I assume you are a new OLPC PH member? Welcome to the group!

Please tell us something of yourself (what got you interested in the OLPC program, what you do as an occupation, and what can you contribute to help us implement the program in the Philippines).

Like John, I will appreciate if you can also share with the group what are your comments on the questions I have raised to John.

Thanks.

Charles

Hi John,

Thank you for expressing to attend the meeting.

I assume you are aware of the current developments and the plan of the core team (Myself, Willie, Ryan and Sandeep) to set-up a non-stock, non-profit foundation and start a school pilot to test the XO on local conditions. I hope you can help us in these efforts.

May I ask the following questions in preparation for the get-together.

1. Did you get the XO to do your technical evaluation? May we get your feedback on the results of your evaluation.

2. I assume you still teach at Ateneo de Manila (Loyola)? What particular subject do you teach? Is it possible to get your help in getting your class to help develop a user manual for using the XO? I know there is a lot of information available online but until teachers and
 students are first able to
be comfortable using the XO , they may be able to access the information from the web.

3. Can we partner up with Jesuit community/ Ateneo de Manila to help us in rolling out the OLPC program in the country? As a partner, they can help us in the needed resources to deploy our program to introduce online education particularly to public schools which still do not have online access. These resources can be as simple as providing volunteers to support the program. Of course, we will still need financial support to cover for out-of-pocket costs, admin support, organisational development and most of all the purchase of the XO.

I am currently in discussions with the Salesians of Don Bosco/ Don Bosco Technical College (Mandaluyong) to be an institutional partner.

I hope we can do the same also with the Asia Pacific College through the help of Marvin Dona. (Marvin if you are reading this, please email me when can we meet to discuss this arrangement with
 APC).

4. Can you comment on the proposed deployment model we will be using for our school pilot? This is using the XO laptop and a USB flash, Sugar as the
application, and freely distributed open source content online to use as a course supplement to teach English.

I am currently preparing for a proposal for a donor to implement a school pilot in 6 public schools in different locations in Metro Manila that will use this deployment model.

5. Can you help us fund raise? Once the foundation is operational, we will need to raise donations to support our program. If you like we can develop a special project for which funds you raised can be used for.

For those volunteer members who are unable to attend the get together on the 28th, I will send an email sharing what was discussed during the meeting. At the same time, if you have any issues you want to raise please raise it now for me to include it in the agenda. Please email not later than 19 June for your RSVP.

Thanks.

Charles

Hello Everybody,

I would like to request anybody interested to come to the Second OLPC Get-together to please RSVP me on your interest to attend. You can
do this by emailing me directly (my email address is copied to this email). This is scheduled to be at 4pm Sunday, 28 June at Starbucks Greenbelt Makati.

A number of members who had expressed an interest to attend have requested to have it on another day instead of a Sunday. I assume since most of us are working this may have to scheduled in the evening. Before I make the decision to reschedule, I would like to know who among us are coming.

Thanks.
