[OLPC-Philippines] Facebook interaction

Hi Sandeep, Cherry.

I was wondering if some of us more active members could get higher
privilege access at the OLPC Ph facebook group so that we can better
engage facebook group members/volunteers?

For important announcements, the facebook group's "send message to
members" feature can be used to buzz group members.

Since people on facebook are usually members of multiple groups, most
of the discussions at the facebook OLPC page are being missed and lost
in the noise of facebook data. One would have to actively visit the
OLPC Ph facebook group page in order to see what's up, and just by
looking at the facebook page interaction history, we can see that the
passive approach is not that effective for engaging the community.

Even starting discussions or posting at the wall isn't enough.
Important topics/announcements have to be pushed to group members in
Facebook.

That being said, should we invite additional people who are interested
on the meet at the 31st? (facebook)

Thing is, I think Jerome asked permission for only around 15 people
max for the G2VC tech bar venue.

On the other hand, there are other people who are really interested,
we just haven't done a good enough job at evangelization yet.

For example, there are only 78 members in this mailing list which is
really small. Jerome, most of those other friends I told you about who
signed up at the old archived "telenovelish" OLPC Ph wiki page and are
genuinely interested in OLPC aren't members of the mailing list, no
wonder I wasn't hearing from any of them. We can also send a shout out
to ph-cyberview too for local IT leaders who may be interested.

Given the venue capacity tho and the need for initial direction so
that chaos doesn't ensue, I guess we shouldn't just invite the entire
Metro Manila yet for the meeting (you know naman us Pinoys and our
amazing social networking reach hahah).

So what do you guys think?

I'll see about inviting a few of my close Linux/educator friends
who're longtime OLPC aficionados if that's okay.

I got a couple of buzzbacks from Philweavers members also for the site.

I'll get back to them.

Regards,

-Naz
