[OLPC-Philippines] Let's specialise on what we are good at

Hi Jerome and Naz,

NEW XO-1 UNITS. Its good OLPC Boston was able to send you 3 XO for your needs. Between us we now have 4 XOs. I am still in discussion with OLPC Australia on getting 150 XOs for the school pilot with Don Bosco.

OLPC FOUNDATION. I suggest given each person's skills
and interest we let everybody contribute to OLPC based on what he is good at.
If you and other members have the skills and interest
in developing the needed application requirements for OLPC then you should
continue on doing this. Willie and I come from business and
project management background, so the way we can contribute is by planning
and managing our school pilot with Don Bosco. And the way we will do this is by forming the
OLPC Foundation so that we will have a legal entity to raise donations to fund
these activities, hire the needed people to manage full time these activities
and help create and promote a higher profile for OLPC.

MEGUMI INITIATIVE. There is another similar initiative using Megumi Reader developed by a local company named PULL. I am told they are now pilot-testing the use of this in English classes of two Grade three sections at Highway Hills Elementary School in Mandaluyong. You may like to get in touch with the school and find out how they are progressing.

Thanks.

I'm in touch with John Koch who's Adobe relations manager for APAC :)

Maybe we can talk to him and the other Adobe guys I'm in touch with
about having OLPC Ph's localized custom rollout image to come shipped
with the Flash player plugin?

Linux Mint which is based on Ubuntu comes with the Flash plugin preinstalled.

Odds are they'll allow it :)

What do you guys think?

Hi all!

After signing up and filling in details at the link Jerome gave, 3
XO-1 units just arrived at my doorstep via FedEx!

I'll use one for testing as default Sugar interface + GNASH, the other
one to try out Ubuntu + Flash 9/10 beta (or whatever we'll decide to
use as alternative OS to Sugar/Fedora)?

Will also pass around with other Flash developer teammates, friends
and colleagues who're interested in contributing to the project.

Third one for OLPC Ph general use?

Wow, who do I thank for this and report to that the units arrived?

I'll also be reporting to the Flash Edugaming for OLPC project page
that I started on results for this.

If more Pinoy flash developers jump onboard, we might need the 3rd
unit to loan to them.

Also, the actual sugar interface on the XO is much much better than
the one on the LiveCD that I've been running in Virtual Box.

Best Regards,

-Naz

Here's the Flash as an Edugaming Platform page I started (content to
be added later):
http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Projects/Flash_As_EduGaming_Platform

Relevant links are:
http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Gnash
http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Adobe_Flash

Going to work first. Will start testing Flash apps on XO-1 when done
with work :)

I suggest you blog about your experience in developing for the XO-1 so
that you can help in what needs to be improved especially with flash/
gnash support!

The unit with me is using build 656 (just checked it now) - this
should be safe to upgrade Naz
