Just a quick question: are the USB ports on the XO computers powered,
and 2.0 compliant? I ask because external hard drives have become less
and less expensive, and there are now several models that don't require
an external power source, ranging from 80 Gb to at least 160 Gb. The
retail prices are mostly $100 to $150 Cdn, on Dell's site for example.
If these units are compatible with the XO's USB ports, they'd be a great
way to add storage capacity to a classroom mesh network, without being
dependent on constant electrical power.

Yep, I use my WD Pocket drive 250GB and it works fine. The XO is USB 2.0 and powered, but keep in mind that running a hard drive takes a _lot_ of power, which is the primary reason that one was not included in the xo.
