Substituts SD memory card for USB disk, and this is correct.
The 'special item' consists of new hooks into OpenFirmware to support
the legacy BIOS calls which Windows requires. This is a 'software
only' solution.
Additionally, the version of Windows XP which Microsoft reportedly
wants to provide requires a larger flash drive, (the XO has only 1Gb)
so the thought is to provide additional storage using a 2Gb SD memory
card (as opposed to a USB disk, although I can't see why it wouldn't
work with USB just as well.) There was also some discussion of
expanding the size of the internal flash drive on a later model of the
XO-1 which would eliminate the need for the external SD card.
So I guess you could say XP is too large for the XO without expansion,
but Microsoft seems to think the performance of the XO using an SD
memory expansion meets their quality standards.
