This sounds very familiar! These same issues came up when Nepal's Dept
of Education approved a pilot of OLPC over 12 months ago.
It took us a full year to get to the actual pilot which starts on April
21st.
* Content Development will take a lot longer than you think, but is
worth it
* The curricula are your friend not your enemy
* You will need to start an NGO or *gasp* for-profit to fund your core
team
* Stick to one grade, you only have 6 months to get started
* You need a larger NGO to partner w/ you for credibility
You are in a much better position now because the XO and XS are more
stable. It has has been difficult to create activities because the Sugar
has changed so much over the last year.
You may also want to contact Open Learning Exchange, Inc. www.ole.org (a
non-profit despite the .inc). They helped us get started in Nepal.
AFAIK, OLPC doesn't have any official mechanisms for recognizing or
financially supporting grassroots organizations.
>Schools will be allowed to choose from among the available laptops.
>The program should capture the differences in outcomes between schools
>using different hardware and software, using appropriate measures LG
>Quinn's office agrees.
This is the future for rich countries. Decisions on which laptop and
technology to use will be made on a district-by-district basis.
ck12.org looks interesting
