...about the need for this project, (especially
critics, naysayers, etc.), I'd like to offer this link
to a fantastic, 34 minute video by Dr. Larry
Brilliant, who describes the elimination of smallpox
(includes photo of the last known case, a small girl
in India).  Note, during his presentation, (Day 6, I
believe), he mentions that because "there is no
internet, no computers", they had to print 2 MILLION
copies of a photograph, in order to search for
cases...
Note again his description of an early detection
system for a pandemic, which is 'open, free, available
to anyone, using computers, etc.'.  Also includes a
photo of the Apple computer, number 12.  Describes
need of computers, technology, etc., to be widely
available, etc.
I can think of no better way to help ensure better
health for the world's children than this project, in
addition to it's value for educational reasons. 
Children with camera, sound and internet equipped
computers...it's perfect! :-)
