Our application as a children's activity for http://FigmentProject.org
has just been approved.

Hope to see you Saturday June 12 on Governors Island, just south of
Manhattan!

Here's the blurb we've submitted for publication in the festival
brochure:

One Laptop per Child (OLPC NYC) brings people
together using
rugged low-cost computers and kids around the world in need. We bring DIY learning using open software called
Sugar, that empowers kids to discover and take control of music,
science
experiments, artistic collaboration, you-name-it. Come
try for yourself, our brand new XO-1.5
laptops, and check out some newly available 10 Watt solar panels! Ask us also about our work across Asia,
Africa, Latin America and in USA schools too. Note
that our brand new laptops now include
the Gnome Desktop for older children too.

Regardless of what “creativity” means for you,
we encourage
everyone who deeply cares about learning, Wikipedia and the like (no
matter
your age) to step up, release your inner child, and start building
wireless/collaborative projects of all kinds -- our NYC community will
then show
you how to obtain our free, tough, water-resistant, low-power laptops
if your
efforts will join ours, organically growing to help kids and school
around the world.

<span
style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: "Times New Roman","serif";">Thanks
for stopping by Saturday June 12th
everyone who cares about rebuilding an exploratory global learning
culture for
the 21st century!
Any other thoughts?
Perhaps Sat Jun 12 on Governors Island here off the southern tip of
Manhattan -- co-hosted with this major "creativity+passion" arts event
-- can someone please contact the organizers and ask about booth/tent
type arrangements?
If so let's also pick a specific time in the middle of their 10 am – 7
pm Saturday, when maximal folks will converge. (Saturday being the
middle day of their 3-day Jun 11-13 non-profit / no-commerce arts
event.)

PS for a similar event last year, watch this NYC Waterpod video if you
haven't -- with OLPC's XO laptops appearing around 2min 50sec :)
What do all of you think? My name is Ryan Letada and I am the Executive
Director of eKindling - a (grassroots) non-profit organization bringing
technology-based, educational innovations to children and classrooms
across the Philippines. We are currently gearing up for our first 100
XO laptop deployment - so check out the pictures here: <a

I've been chatting with both Adam Holt (OLPC) and Marina (OLPCVietnam),
and we agree that its about time for another OLPC NYC Meetup. We are
thinking about first or second week of June.

If you are interested in helping with the planning, please feel free to
shoot me an email.
Cheers,
