From the <a href="http://olpceu.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=477ba4e99c324622abcfb6af6&id=b7709f5270&e=0e4da4aa60" _style="color: #505050;font-weight: bold;text-decoration: underline;">schooling section of the annual budget</a>:<br>

"The Australian Government is providing over $11 million to support the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) Program which will deliver over 50,000 custom built laptops to primary students in regional and remote Australia as part of a 12 month pilot program. The OLPC Australia Organisation (OLPC Australia) aims to support the learning opportunities of indigenous children, particularly those in remote Australia, by providing primary-school aged children with a connected XO laptop as part of a sustainable training and support program. Participating schools will also receive information and communications technology (ICT) professional development, local repair kits, and access to helpdesk and online support".</span></span><br>

<span _style="color:#000000;"><span _style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"><span _style="font-size:12px;">On March 16, at the 2012 Annual Meeting of the Inter-American Development Bank, OLPC and Plan Ceibal announced that Uruguay will be the first country to receive the production run of the newest low-power XO-1.75. Uruguay began working with OLPC in 2007, and by 2010 achieved complete laptop saturation, providing XO’s to all 570,000 primary school children in the country.</span></span></span><br>

<span _style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; ">“We are deeply committed to making One Laptop Per Child a reality for all our children because we believe that digital fluency is essential to a 21st century education,” said Miguel Brechner, Director of the Technological Laboratory of Uruguay and in charge of Plan Ceibal. “The XO laptop empowers children by allowing them to explore the world, be creative, learn by doing, and collaborate and share with their classmates and communities.”</span><br>

<font color="#000000" face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><span _style="font-size: 12px;">The XO 1.75 provides significant advances in technology that reduce power consumption, and make the laptop more rugged for children’s use. The Marvell Armada 610 processor in the XO 1.75 uses </span></font><span _style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; ">only</span><font color="#000000" face="arial, helvetica, sans-serif"><span _style="font-size: 12px;"> 4 Watts – a quarter of the power consumption of most processors on the market. The XO 1.75 also features a new operating system with the newest version of Sugar.</span></font><br>

With the system having been designed and built to power 500 XO laptops, it was - and very likely still is - the world's largest single-school solar laptop charging deployment. </span></font><br>

<span _style="color:#000000;"><span _style="font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"><span _style="font-size:12px;">Rwanda, which became home to the largest non-South American OLPC deployment in 2011, is continuing to push ahead with plans to expand its project by another 100,000 XOs. "We will receive an additional 100,000 laptops in May 2012," Nkubito Bakuramutsa, the OLPC Coordinator in the Ministry of Education told The New Times in a recent <a href="http://olpceu.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=477ba4e99c324622abcfb6af6&id=3a33ae496c&e=0e4da4aa60" _style="color: #505050;font-weight: bold;text-decoration: underline;">interview</a>.<br>
<br>
With regard to the significant infrastructure challenges OLPC faces in Rwanda, good progress is also being made when it comes to electricity: "For schools that are far from the grid, we are working closely with ... the Ministry of Infrastructure to install solar energy. Closer to the grid, we are working with district officers and Energy, Water and Sanitation Authority (EWSA) to complete the connection of schools to the national grid," Nkubito Bakuramutsa explained.</span></span></span></p>

<font _style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; " color="#000000">In this video, filmmaker <a href="http://olpceu.us1.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=477ba4e99c324622abcfb6af6&id=5c5c4decb2&e=0e4da4aa60" _style="color: #505050;font-weight: bold;text-decoration: underline;">Chiara Frisone</a> documented the OLPC project taking place as part of the <a href="http://olpceu.us1.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=477ba4e99c324622abcfb6af6&id=78b46488ab&e=0e4da4aa60" _style="color: #505050;font-weight: bold;text-decoration: underline;">Kliptown Youth Program</a> (KYP). Thanks to the support of an American family, the first 100 XOs were brought to the project in early 2008 and since then the project has been exapanded to 300 laptops. This 10-minute video gives an overview of KYP and how the XOs are used at the project - well worth watching. </font><br>
