Hi Dear Paul

Thanks a lot for your message. I am sure we'll do miracle through integration of laptops into ecotourism and alleviating poverty. Please, update as to context of the 'proof of concept' since I guess concept is the sine qua non condition for reaching goals of any project.
Thanks
Jean

Dear Jean

Thank you for your email. I am certain that there are ways in which
the two projects I am working on can help.

Although 'Madagascar on Gaia' has an ecological theme it will also
show ways of life - village scenes, nature that could include the
school involved in the OLPC Madagascar project.

My co-worker who is helping to build  'Madagascar on Gaia'  is French
and she has a number of work contacts in Madagascar through her work
connections. We are thinking that we could use the Openlife Grid ( the
virtual world in which we are buidling  'Madagascar on Gaia') to use a
showcase to the world of the environmental and ecology themes. But it
could go further - promoting ecotourism in MG, even local MG
organisations being present on  'Madagascar on Gaia' ( Openlife has an
economy, so it is possible to use it for collecting money for
charities, or even a simple form of e-commerce for local fund raising
projects -  all of this could be possible )

For the OLPC MG project we are thinking of reconstructing the school
that will receive the XOs on  'Madagascar on Gaia' so that visitors
could actually walk around the school in virtual reality, as if they
were actually there.

OLPC Openlife is actually a separate project - created more as a
'proof of concept' that allows us to demonstrate that, with a good
internet connection, groups of people ( eg in Paris and in Madagascar
or anywhere in the real world ) meeting in a virtual world to interact

The first step is probably using some photographs from the project
which we can use to build into  'Madagascar on Gaia', then using
photos of the school, try to reconstruct the school building in
'Madagascar on Gaia' and we shall work on those first.

Best wishes

David Paul
