OLPC Ghana, the Ghanaian government, and many others are currently
working on a deployment of 10,000 OLPC XOs to schools in Ghana. We
also need to work on electricity and Internet for villages, so that
children can use their XOs to the full, and link up with each other on
education, and later on jobs and businesses. My organization, Earth
Treasury, is in the middle of this.

I find the economics of aid to Ghana heart-rending. It costs more than
$3,000 just for one person to go on a lightning visit. That would be
enough to pay for 15 laptops, if we were properly organized for it.

You can easily buy one or two XOs at a time on eBay, and you can order
10,000 or more at a time from OLPC, but there is currently nothing in
the middle. An order of 10,000 costs slightly under $2 million, and
will do many, many millions worth of good.

If you have any ideas on how we could form an organization to raise
that kind of money and make smaller quantities of XOs available to
small projects everywhere, let's talk. I have a few.
