Auckland Testing Summary 27 October 2012
Who: John, Oliver, Tabitha, Tom

One Education OS 1.2 (build au888) on XO-1.75:
It’s not clear what has changed, we’re told that the build comes from
https://sugardextrose.org/projects/xo-au/repository but it’s not clear
which commit resulted in which build. It’s also not clear how to clone
this repository. The naive approach doesn’t work:
$ git clone https://sugardextrose.org/projects/xo-au/repository
Initialized empty Git repository in /tmp/repository/.git/
fatal: https://sugardextrose.org/projects/xo-au/repository/info/refs not
found: did you run git update-server-info on the server?

Recorded a video on high quality with Record. Closed Record. Resumed the
video from the journal and got an error:

This seems to happen every time on all the XO-1.75s we tried. I think
this might be https://sugardextrose.org/issues/2492 where the same error
message is reported on-screen while playing audio. Resuming with browse
works, but the sound is _very_ crackly. Resuming with etoys failed with
a DBus "you should just abandon" error on one laptop and a “this file is
too long error” on another laptop. Logs from Jukebox (aka plain resume
from the journal) are very similar to those on #2492.

Some testers report everything being much faster than build au49 but
quantitative measurement wasn’t possible.

XO-1.75 Moa
Stopwatch 16 - works
Record 96.1 / Journal - made a movie, on trying to play from journal it
crashed the activity that it tried to open. The resume with menu gives
you etoys, jukebox and browse. Only browse works. Photos do however open
with “resume”, no need to choose from the menu to view your picture.
Wikipedia EN 31 - works
Browse 129.3 - works
Get books 11 and Read 92.3 work
Write 79 works
Found Jukebox 24 didn’t play back audio created in Record (see Hoiho
notes below)
Measure 42 - adjusted gain as level was too high on first start, on
closing measure and restarting you get an almost flat line... hmmm...
turned up and restarted again and get another almost flatline
My settings - changed timezone to Auckland, changed the ntp stuff,
clicked the tick box, choose restart and you just go back to choosing a
timezone - it doesn’t restart! Tried “later”, on shutdown and restart,
and checking the timezone shows it has changed to Auckland. Tried to
change back to Darwin and restart works correctly. Tried changing back
to Auckland with and without changing the ntp stuff, and restart works.
Attached is a 27MB log file from the first time we tried to change the
timezone, when it wouldn’t restart.
Installed Tamtam Synth Lab version 66 from Browse Sugar activities link.
Tested various options and they all seemed to work.
Tux Math 2 - activity closed when you click “play”, repeatable fail.
Tamtam Jam 63 - works
Portfolio 26 - works
Image viewer 19 - works

XO-1.75 C2 named Hoiho (running One Education OS 1.2 build au888) Sugar
0.94.1 in English:
Notice the font is quite easy to read and kid friendly.
Maze 18 - works on all controls and can play several levels successfully
Ruler 19 - works
Memorize 36 - all preloaded games and sizes work, can create a text game
and play it
Record 96.1 - low and high quality image and video works, audio works
Speak 42 - the robot part is not smart in this version
Paint 43 - works
Read 92.3 - maybe there should be one book loaded on the XO when it
arrives, so you can see the purpose of the activity? Or some kind of
help message saying how to “get books”
Moon 13 - works
Stopwatch 16 - works
Clock 9 - works
Poll 28 - works, wanted to rename a poll but this feature not present,
wanted to edit poll but can’t.
Tamtam mini 63.1 - works
Arithmetic 2.1 - works
Turtle machine 22 - works
Portfolio 26 - starred some images in journal, then opened portfolio,
portfolio shows the images but the update description is not working.
Went into journal and added some descriptions there, they show in
portfolio. The full screen mode works, the autoplay works and you can
change the timing. Made recording using portfolio record tool and saved
it, confirmed it plays back when using autoplay feature and audio file
is added to journal. Made pictures in Paint and starred them, reordered
images in portfolio using thumbnail view - woohoo we are making
presentations!
Jukebox - broken. It can’t playback the audio we made in portfolio (says
error: resource busy or not available - gstalsasink.c(697):
gst_alsasink_open () device ‘default’ is busy). Also same error when you
make audio in Record.
Labyrinth 12 - basic test works
Calculate 38.1 - basic test works
Turtle Art 156.1 - basic test works
Cartoon builder 17 - basic test works
Social calc 6 - could enter information but couldn’t work out how to
make a graph, the help button in the graph tab didn’t do anything,
eventually made a graph but it wasn’t so good, don’t know what I did
wrong. Why is there a formula bar in the graph view?
Typing turtle 29 - alphabet balloons tested and they work
Measure 42 - basic test works, but on restarting activity after adjust
gain down you get an almost flatline on every resume and on closing for
third time I got a “measure failed to start” error message.
Dimensions 39 - beginner basic test works
Numbers 25 - basic test works
Flip sticks 12 - basic test works
Implode 11 - basic test works
Physics 9 - basic test works
Fototoon 11 - basic test works
Edit 100 - basic test works
Help 13 - basic test works, but STILL missing the image “Keyboard
English” on the keyboard shortcuts page.
Words 15 - basic test works
Storybuilder 19 - basic test works
Jigsaw puzzle 10 - basic test works but moving can be frustrating as you
move then the piece follows after a short delay
Slider puzzle 10 - works but it’s too hard for me
Infoslicer 15 - created page with two images then text and another
image, loaded in Browse but most of the content of the page created in
Infoslicer is missing, only getting one image and no text. Back to
Infoslicer and the first two images are replaced with file paths but
text is still there so not sure why it isn’t appearing in Browse.
Tux Paint 6.1 - paint does not appear on the page in the same place as
where your paint brush is. Delays in stamps appearing on page after you
choose and click to place the stamp (around 3 or 4 seconds?). Fun
“magic” options to explore. Activity not “sugarised” so has quit not
stop, takes a while to close and leaves you in the details view of the
journal item.
Tux Math 2 - activity closed when you click “play”, repeatable fail.
Switch desktop to Gnome works, as does switching back.
Spirolaterals 23 - basic test works
Tamtam edit 63 - took a while to work out how to listen to one track at
a time, seemed the mute button is reversed (no tick is mute, tick is
play aloud), complicated.

13.1.0 for XO-4 (build 8) on XO-4:
No new defects discovered, used browse and terminal quite extensively.
