[OLPC-AU] Sugar on a Stick not working

Yes, I've heard of SoaS doing that.  I've not followed all the
discussions, but they've been in the Sugar or SoaS mailing lists.  The
usual causes in my opinion are:

1.  USB drive being pulled out while it was still in use, causing bad
sectors or filesystem corruption,

2.  USB drive being modified by third-party software,

3.  computer configuration changing to remove boot from USB as option.

Reinstalling SoaS on the USB drive usually clears 1 & 2.
