I would absolutely love to come - I deployed three XO's near Las Galeras on the Samana Peninsula - but I have school and it would be completely impossible for me to make it to the DR. I went there last summer to deploy the computers and hope to return with more, possibly in February, if I am able to get anymore. My blog is located here - <a href="https://sites.google.com/site/laptopsforthedominican/">https://sites.google.com/site/laptopsforthedominican/</a> . I try to update it as often as possible but school, band, and sports get in the way all of the time. <div>

Dear Isabella,<br>
<br>
Can we have an OLPC dinner in Santo Domingo early evening Saturday
Oct 30? I arrive from OLPC's Boston office that afternoon, and will
be working with OLPC's volunteer coordinator for the Dominican
Republic (Ivan, himself also a volunteer). We would love to see you
and others if so!<br>
<br>
We'll be discussing OLPC/Sugar-like opportunities in the DR and
Haiti first and foremost, inviting anybody you and Ivan feel will
contribute to the discussion.<br>
<br>
While also sharing details from the OLPC/Sugar Community's largest
ever contributor/volunteer summit, taking place just 1 week prior in
San Francisco:<br>
<br>
<a href="http://olpcSF.org/CommunitySummit2010/people.php" target="_blank">http://olpcSF.org/CommunitySummit2010/people.php</a><br>
<br>
Thanks for considering! Please invite the people you believe take
modernizing education most seriously, no matter their age -- or all
28 million from the Caribbean's most populous island if you prefer,
where I can't wait to set foot ;)<br>

<i>PS I'm paying for this 2-week Haiti exploration myself, as my 1st
ever vacation from OLPC in 3 years, trying to rebuild this
Port-au-Prince school (<a href="http://blueTarpSchool.blogspot.com" target="_blank">http://blueTarpSchool.blogspot.com</a>) with a
group of close friends, and very strongly welcome suggestions from
all.</i><br>

<br>
I would recommend you taking a close look at this program:<br>
<br>
<a href="http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Contributors_program" target="_blank">http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Contributors_program</a><br>
<br>
You can get XO for small projects through it, this is a good
step<br>
toward larger deployements.<br>
<br>
OLPC talks with governments: contacts between Dominican
Republic<br>
and OLPC need to be quite formal at some point, depending on
how<br>
much the country is prepared to commit into a deployment.<br>
<br>
But the larger OLPC community (essentially made of volunteers
like<br>
me) is always here to provide advice and help at any scale, so
feel<br>
free to start your own project and to let things blossom from
there.<br>
<br>
All the best,<br>
