Why is there a "need" to shift PyGame off SDL?

I don't even see why a "port" is necessary.  SDL runs as is, although
right now it doesn't interact well with matchbox.

Well, the LX chip can do proper scaling and colourspace conversions, so
now we'll be able to do things like scale a game running at a low res to
fill the whole display, which is great for games like doom that can't
render to 1200x900 quickly.
