Project Background/Objectives:<br>
The World Wide Workshop Foundation’s "Next Billion Learners"
intiative<br>
focuses on the development of creative learning software for low cost<br>
laptops, in order to support 1:1 computing worldwide. Our goal is to<br>
give educational opportunities to the next billion learners so that
they<br>
will become creative thinkers, learners and leaders with technology.
As<br>
the first project in this initiative in 2007-08, the foundation<br>
partnered with OLPC to create the MaMaMedia Creative Learning
Center, a<br>
set of original Constructionist Learning activities for young
children<br>
in developing countries wherein the OLPC organization has been
deploying<br>
their laptop programs. The MaMaMedia Creative Center is based on<br>
award-winning, kid-tested, hard-fun puzzles, digital toys, and<br>
creativity tools from MaMaMedia.com.<br>
<br>
The objective of the Next Billion Learner Philippines Project is to<br>
integrate constructionist learning activities (e.g. MaMaMedia
Creative<br>
Center) into the educational programming of the first 1:1
Computing/OLPC<br>
Initiative in the Philippines.<br>

Project Objectives:<br>
Develop a workshop with 50 Faculty of the University of Costa Rica
and the<br>
Ministry of Public Education to understand the educational and
technical<br>
characteristics of the OLPC;<br>
<br>
Develop a Strategic Plan, with stakeholders from academic, public and<br>
private sectors, for the implementation of a pilot experience of
massive<br>
introduction of OLPCs in one community in the country (to be
defined).<br>
<br>
Invite the general public to a Talk at the University of Costa Rica
about<br>
the current state of OLPC projects in the world, in particular in
Latin<br>
America.<br>
<br>
Invite Ministers of Education, Science and Technology, Presidents of<br>
Universities and Representatives of all Political Parties to a
Presentation<br>
about Education in the XXI Century and OLPC, and the Strategic Plan
for the<br>
introduction of OLPC in one community in the country.<br>
