Assuming your laptop is not in secure mode:

Edit /versions/boot/current/boot/olpc.fth

At the end of the file add the word 'visible' just before 'olpc-fth-boot-me'

so after the edit it would look like the following:

   boot
;
visible
olpc-fth-boot-me
