Power Manager does disable the suspend-resume when you plug in an HDMI 
cable, but if the laptop is already asleep when you do it, it doesn't 
wake up. I don't think this is a major problem -- the external display 
comes on when the laptop wakes up and people are likely to interact with 
the computer before giving up on the external display!
