So, imported the sources, fixed up makefiles a bare minimum.

The fun doesn't end there though. bzipreader has this line

  fatal("Corrupted file"); /* I'm not actually certain that this is
necessarily the case */

and sure enough we hit that case with a valid file. Hacked it blindly
into a mere warning.
