Unfortunately, Compiz won't run on the XO-1 because it requires OpenGL.

For accessibility purposes, you could use the magnifier of Orca:

To make window transitions smoother, we could use a composing window
manager which does not require OpenGL. Sugar 0.88 uses Metacity which
supports composition.

Probably worth trying, but it may very well turn out that composing huge
windows (1200x900x16) ends up eating too much video memory on the Geode
LX.
