There's an easier method.
Get this script -
http://dev.laptop.org/git/users/martin/image-builder/tree/mount_jffs2.sh
and it'll mount the jffs2 image in /media/jffs2. Copy it to your SD
card with something that preserves special nodes - for example rsync
-a or cpio .
