Ah, OK.
Unfortunately (but understandably) there is no fluid history between
stable releases that are based on a different version of Linus's
kernel. For example, there is no fluid history between linux-2.6.31.6
and 2.6.32.1

Instead, at the end of the 2.6.31 cycle, they basically throw away
everything they have and start fresh with 2.6.32. They work in
physically separated git repositories for this reason.
