Hi Folks,
Once again I have found something wonderful to share from the olpc-sur list. In Uruguay they have come up with a cartoon video and a computer game designed to help dispel fears of computers that some adults (including parents and teachers) may have. They call it El Cuco de las computadores. In Latin American countries, el cuco is sort of a "boogyman," based on irrational, unfounded fears.
The cute cartoon gives a simple introduction to computers and what they can do. In the section on "portatiles" (laptops) they include an image of an XO. Then below the YouTube window there is a button to click to access a cute game they have written that will help a beginner get accoustomed to the keyboard and mouse (they use mice a lot with the XOs in Uruguay).
You don't have to know Spanish to appreciate these resources. Their production values are top-notch! Take a look, enjoy, and figure a way we can translate/localize it for other places (other languages and other, local, boogeymen!)
