Sim City

Seems to run really well. Controls take a bit of mastering. Graphics
are good and seem quite smooth. Good game.

Xaos

A fractal generator. Really good and seemed to run really smoothly.
Nicely interactive and a good menu system; lots of predefined formulae
to choose from and lots of controls and customisation.

Scratch

Animation and media development program. Cool concept and nice
interface that is intuitive and easy to use for creating animations,
presentations or even games. Commands are done in the form of
jigsaw-style blocks that click together.

Tried a few others from the site(SWA-stack attack, FunTowers) but
these still rather in-development (listed as student projects) and
didn't work particularly well.

Also d/l'ed and ran up a VNC server but unable to connect due to
different networks so would be interested to try it with client and
server able to see each other.

Problems

Trying to run the RSS newsreader gave problems with gconfd (which
caused it to exit before it was able to start up. After further
investigation and research it would appear to be permission problems
related to the isolated sandpit the app is run in but unable to debug
to a greater depth.
