In your concentration on the control panel, PLEASE keep in mind 
customers with non-standard connectivity.

I myself am unable to use the control panel 'update' facility from 
home -- because my internet connection at home is through a proxy, 
and I have no way to tell the control panel session to use a proxy 
to route its server requests.  [I *can* use the CLI control panel 
commands from Terminal - since my Terminal session *is* (manually) 
set up to use my proxy.]
