As this involves a new kernel, does it make any sense to try to get 
other kernel related 'low-hanging fruit' into this?

Viz: #3050 'Please include drivers for the Keyspan USA-19HS'; which I'd 
guess is just a compile time switch.

Are any of the other fifty 8.1.1 and 8.2 kernel bugs potentially this 
simple to address?
