cjb: +1

erikg's desire notwithstanding, i don't think unionfs is (a) a good
thing to add to our kernel (I reviewed the current unionfs
alternatives a few months ago, and the supported ones aren't
flash-friendly, and vice-versa), or (b) the quickest way to get to the
solution cjb describes above.
