I'll add that I'm going to add a "critical" state in the EC code. 
Currently low battery is based on the SOC value (the percentage) and if 
its wrong you end up with that abrupt low-voltage shutoff with no warning.

The voltage output curve in the final stages is very non-linear but 
there's a threshold that if you are below you have entered into the 
danger zone and shutoff is imminent.
