In the process, I extended the tag format in an upward-compatible 
fashion to allow value strings longer than 127 bytes:

I have implemented support for that new format, with full 
interoperability with the old short format, in a test version of the 
firmware.

I plan to write a program that will automatically create an image of the 
new KA tag from the master spreadsheets that define the OLPC keyboard 
layouts.
