Yes we need one.  A good place to start is gnumeric which is lightweight
and supports Excel files.  It is also somewhat compatible with abiword.
I believe gnumeric provides a libgnumeric so it might be good to wrap
that with python and do a sugar frontend like we do for abiword (Write
activity)
