Reformat your USB disk prior to upgrades please.

We do check the firmware and refuse the write the activation lease if
doing so would corrupt your flash stick.  We then upgrade the
firmware.  *LEAVE THE STICK IN* as you reboot after the firmware is
upgraded and things will Just Work for you.
