System Software Meeting Minutes

Jordan, Chris Ball, Zephaniah, Richard, Ray, Jim, Mitch,

Status:

Zephaniah, Andres, Jim have been attacking the touchpad.
The TP runs slowly but so does a PS/2 mouse. Set-sample-rate doesn't
affect the TP.
Try throwing set-sample-rate at PS/2 mouse to see if it responds.

Richard: the RAM timing fix is holding up.

Mitch: working on diagnosis of failed board

Ray: about the mfg data area: Need a way for repair people to rewrite flash
Do we need another key or signature.
Action Item (Mitch, Ray, Ivan, Mark) for resolving this.

Currently use date and time to distinguish bios. We will have formal
numbered releases.
We need release/ECO procedures soon.

Action Item (Mitch and interested parties) to formalize ECO process.
-- EC binary release must factor into it. How Quanta releases EC to us.

Jordan: DCON is working. Trying to turn everything off in graphics
controller.
How to link all DCON features into various interfaces - backlight, etc.

Jim: DCON taped out 2 days ago, it's out for fab (from the CEO of Himax)

Jim: priorities list: everybody seems to agree that the list is good

AI: everybody who is on the stakeholder list please for the mfg data

Richard for Ron: LZMA works, but requires GCC >= 4.

AI: Jordan to ping Ron about PRS

Toolchain: stick to a known version of the toolchain and compile with
it. Jordan to add
a check in buildrom.

Bug Triage:

These two bugs are blockers for several others:

#111: Create IPv6 test net at OLPC
        \- #7: Server and client IPv6 autoconfiguration
        \- #18: Server IPv6 configuration
        \- #19: Laptop network autoconfiguration.
        \- #34: Fix sugar with Avahi/ipv6

  #60: Resume from RAM
\- #31: Power Manager for OLPC laptops
       \- #33: X Power management work
       \- #45: Virtual terminal switching

The unacknowledged bugs, followed by and sorted by their milestone, are:

High priority:
#106: Update Linuxbios Upgrading wiki page for CL2 and CL2.5 (alpha)
Assign to Richard. Pictures have been taken - Jim to ding the intern

#45: Virtual terminal switching (beta)
Depends on resume from RAM - not going to happen for awhile

#75: Can't pipe to nandwrite (beta)
Assign to Chris. Downgrade to lower priority. We have a
workaround by using external storage.

Meta issue: definition of milestones. Jim thinks that they should
correspond to builds
AI: Jim to deal with milestone nomenclature

#104: Touch pad kernel driver (beta)
More generic mystery: PS/2 mouse driver is running very slow.
Zephaniah, Andres, Jim are working on it.
Ray will ask EC engineer about it.
Mitch to send diagnostic to Ray.
The port doesn't work at all under Insyde, but does work with LinuxBIOS
The baud rate looks correct but we are seeing long gaps.

#105: Touch pad X driver (beta)
     Assign to Zephaniah

#60: Resume from RAM (final)
     Assign to Mitch

#29: Gecko caching is pretty broken (final)
Ticket needs pointer to Mozilla bugs
     AI: Jim to expand ticket.
We are really looking for help from Mozilla

#61: rendercheck reports problems with EXA driver (final)
     Assign to Jordan

#111: Create IPv6 test net at OLPC (is blocking work on #7, #18, #19, #34)
AI: Jim to talk to Michaelis to set up IPv6 net

Normal priority:
#98: a-f segments cause errors in memtest, and fixed region configs are
possibly not set right (alpha)
Assign to Richard, who will Do The Right Thing.

#30: USB testing infrastructure (beta)
     (Compatibility list).
An intern is taking a web course and is interested in implementing it.
     Jim to supervise this effort.
push milestone out to C because the hardware has changed from A to
B boards

#31: Power Manager for OLPC laptops (beta)
     Desktop component to tweak parameters.
     Depends on X stuff.
AI: Jim to contact Gnome power manager guy to start thinking about it

#44: GTK+ Changes for better use (beta)
Blinking cursors done, themes done, OLPC theme done
OLPC is trying to find a way to support Manu's work
     Jim to update ticket

#81: better trac workflow (beta)
defer pending some more infrastructure setup to happen next week or so

#84: https sites freeze Firefox (beta)
#85: improve sugar-jhbuild sanitycheck (beta)
#86: Sugar starts up as a blank slate (beta)
#87: Firefox freezes when domain not found (beta)
#88: ImportError for vte module (beta)
     All Dan's purview
AI: Jim to bug Dan to report status

#91: Getty doesn't run on ttyS0 by default (beta)
     Already fixed and closed

#95: Possible LB changes needed for CaFe (beta)
Ticket updated to clarify situation (pending dust settling on CaFe
spec)

AI: Follow up with Marvell about disposition of PCI CaFe simulation boards.

#96: Fix qemu support (beta)
     Reassign to Zeuthen
Jim to ask Zeuthen to get into trac

#99: No mappings between build image and GIT commit ID (beta)
Waiting for blizzard to catch up

#102: Clean /tmp on reboot; create sugar log file (beta)
     Chris Ball to annotate this

#67: Non-existent i8040 active multiplexing controller detected
Ray to register with trac and then assign that bug to himself

#56: OLPC should run at 66MHz PCI
     Somebody Else's Problem

#97: e820 map incorrectly excludes most of range 0xa0000-100000
Richard to renew his interest in this bug

#107: Bootmenu should allow interaction via serial
     Jordan is working the issue

#112: Board ..0958 Failure
Mitch to find out which side of the USB bus is trashing the signals.

#113: LinuxBios flashing procedure seems to need additional step
Ray will report on EC behavior around reset.
