System SW Meeting Minutes
2006-10-17

Chris Blizzard, Mitch (scribe), Jim, Chris Ball (moderator), Andres,
Zephaniah, Richard, Jordan, Ray, Ted, Victor, Marcello, Ivan

*** New action items:

AI: Chris Ball to pick a PGP implementation and recommend to Quanta

AI: Mitch to deliver a new LB release with fixes for
trac 155 - CaFe interrupt routing
trac 186 - EC AUX D3 command response (LB patch)
   trac 153 - firmware signature
trac 136 - serirq in quiet mode
   (maybe) trac 151 - 256 MB RAM

AI: Ray to tell Mitch how to detect a 3700 vs a 3920

AI; Ray to release EC version 20 next week with quiet mode,
    battery management, and AUX multiplexing.

AI: Mitch and Chris Ball to do a PRS test that runs in tinderbox

AI: Andres to add verified state to trac (reassigned from Jim)

AI: Everyone mail Ivan to get an internal wiki account if necessary

AI: Everyone document your procedures!

*** Old AI's still outstanding:

AI: Mitch to send bad board to Quanta? (old AI)

AI: Richard - 113: LinuxBIOS flashing procedure needs additional step
     fixed, need to be closed.
  - Richard also needs to fix something with olpcflash

AI Zephaniah - Input: we have a functional kernel driver that needs
             minor tweaks before sending upstream.
  - Not quite ready because of btest hardware stuff

AI Jordan - make trac entries for any PRS issues that require
LinuxBIOS changes.
  + Made Wiki page
  - Still need to file some trac tickets for things that need to be changed

AI Jordan - open a trac bug about the text rendering speed problem.
  - No progress

AI Jordan - oprofile needs NMI-capable interrupts. Useful even without.
If NMI available, should be put into trac as an opportunity
          Talk to tom about it.
  - Not yet resolved (Tom says counters 16 bits only, but that may be
enough)

AI Jordan - DCON: Preserve picture when graphics engine, gamma support
+ Sent gamma patch to Mark
  - needs to formalize it and get it into kernel tree.

Ray on the topic of product/firmware version numbers:
  Quanta product number is CL1
Firmware version number should start at 2A11
The EC code just released is version 19, also known as 1A12
Future EC releases will just be 64K, with the release number
as part of the file name. The version 19 release was embedded
in the 1M 19t2_lb.ROM file, but future ones will be only 64K.

Blizzard: New build: Need to fix some problems - X spinning, new Sugar -
before releasing a new build. Btest drivers need to be integrated, e.g.
NAND.

Drivers: cables to recover bricks supposed to arrive tomorrow. Mitch
will deliver LB with CaFe interrupt fix.

Mitch: serial recovery procedure is working

BIOS: The new EC works, both for Mitch and David.

PS2 Aux port: Ene turned off the multiplexor functions internally.
If the register is set to all bits one, the D3 command works.

Trac 136 discussion - SERIRQ quiet mode:
Consensus was for EC to configure it in continuous mode, LB to
switch it to quiet mode if it's a 3700

Trac 155 discussion - Interrupt routing:
Mitch has built with Jordan's patch and checked all the relevant
registers; it looks good so far. Upcoming LB release will have it in.

Discussion of when to cut over to Open Firmware:
First priority is to stabilize the Btest hardware and make a
solid LB with Linux bootloader. When that is solid, Mitch will
start releasing test OFW images, and when we decide they are
solid, cut over. OFW is currently missing ZLIB integration for
JFFS2, and CaFe NAND driver doesn't work (fails in the same way
as the Linux driver for same).

Adam Jackson is working on the 16-bit color issue.

Blizzard: We do have drivers built for next X image

Driver integration:

Andres - all the available drivers are integrated, including
CaFe NAND and CaFe camera. The NAND hardware is not working.

OLPC 2.6 RPMs should be tinderboxed soon. Waiting for
working CaFe interrupt so we can test camera driver.

Marcello: All drivers are clean and should be sent upstream soon.
Several RedHat people working on them.

Tinderbox failure with Qimoda RAM - Mark Foster just disqualified that part.

sysprof, etc - no change in status

tmpfs - no change in status - Marcello: use tmpfs for now, limited to
20M, then reevaluate later
Jim: set it to 10 to find broken apps sooner

Done AI: Mitch, check with Ivan and Mark about ability to hard reset
reliably after reflashing, add trac entry for Mark.
Done AI: Mitch: supply Open Firmware for people to start testing
Done AI: Mitch: supply Open Firmware test for B1 mouse

Done Jordan - make trac entries for any PRS issues that require
LinuxBIOS changes.
+ Made Wiki page

Done Ray - EC code.
+ Released 19 last weekend

Andres - Zephaniah needs touchpad calibration values from Andres.

+ Zephaniah got the values, some of them have to change for new samples
(Jim reports that there are some new touchpad sample)

Jim - Verified state in trac

- Reassign to Andres
