Comment:

 Interesting comments.  However, not only was the CPU chosen prior to my
 joining OLPC, after I joined, I surveyed 315 different commercial 32-bit
 CPUs.  When all of the specs were taken into consideration, I agreed that
 the Geode was the best choice for the machine.  For what it's worth, we'll
 see even better fits to our system in the future - multiple CPU
 manufacturers are discussing new CPUs which are purpose-designed to meet
 OLPC's requirements.  I'm closing this for now, but believe me, we'll have
 interesting alternatives available for future generations.
