For Linux to be successful on mobile clients, Linux laptop battery life
must be compelling.

To achieve and maintain a strong battery life story, the Linux community
must be able to make reliable comparisons. Linux developers must be able
to measure the effect of their changes on battery life. Linux customers
must be able to evaluate the battery life of competing vendor offerings.
Linux users must be able to maximize the battery life of the systems
they have.

This paper describes tools and techniques for measuring Linux laptop
battery life to achieve these goals. The paper includes measurement
results showing where the power goes, and now selected systems and
configurations differ.
