Is it a lot of work? I guess a general purpose USB stack is, but what
about just accessing USB storage?

I don't know much about USB, but if they can do this on an 8-bit
Apple, Atari or C-64 in Forth with a few pages of code (plus the Forth
interpreter, probably 8K), I can't imagine it would be all that
difficult to rewrite in C.

The choice of USB controller might affect things too.
