[OLPC-devel] Why ACPI DSDT tables?

Unless there is someone signed up to do *all* the work involved in
different kernel interfaces for battery, lid switch, etc, I think that
David Zeuthen's observation that we may as well use ACPI for those
standard interfaces wins. Note that providing all those interfaces is a
non-trivial amount of work. It might be conceivable to leverage work
done on some of the handheld implementations, (e.g. Nokia 770), but
unless/until there is some concrete proposal and someone writing in
blood that they'll get it done, let's do the "compatible" solution.
Whether we use ACPI for any of the actual device suspend/resume is a
different question entirely; there I'm inclined to avoid using it.
Suspend/resume time is critical to us with DCON; I'm currently trying to
get real measurements from an iPAQ to know how fast Linux can go without
heroics on reasonable hardware.
