second rural range test

G'day,

My wife Petria and I did some more testing this evening. Summary of
results:

1. ears down hindered connectivity, especially if the ears pointed
toward or away from the access point, converting good coverage to
marginal, but we haven't quantified the effect yet,

2. successful operation at 100m and 200m distance tested between all
three laptops against an access point, to establish a baseline for
further tests,

3. two of the three units were able to re-establish and operate a
wireless network connection over 1.5km from the access point, to the
point of pinging,

All three BTest-1 units are running olpc193_A62.zip from Mitch.

The access point has been mounted below the rain gutter on the side of
the farm house, with both antennae connected. The antennae are about 2m
off the ground.

We've made a log of battery capacity, signal level, noise level, and
ping time, at one second intervals, on each laptop.

Petria's test notes are attached. She was my scribe. Timestamps there
are relative to the kernel clock of the unit under test. No ntp or
rdate.

Trac #595 and #596 raised for a couple of observations regarding
iwconfig and battery capacity respectively.

(One laptop per ants nest nearly happened ... in a wheat stubble paddock
with thistles and flies ... but the ants decided to abandon the laptop
when I picked it up.)
