Thanks Chih-yu,
I appreciate your help!
The first time I tried to install I indeed did have typos! Then tried again, a few days ago. I typed that incredibly long command, got the arrows and downloading message. I then tried the browser - no luck. I did a complete reboot-because... well that just seems to be the solution for all problems with my computer-smiles-. No luck. I shutdown again and tried multiple efforts at the site. Still no luck. I had to put away the XO so not the throw it across the room.
Next night I tried to download Flash again. The wake site had changed to a "not long" option. I got the ======> XO thought for a while, download was successful, about 6 lines of information came up on the screen. I repeated my performance from the previous night, shutdown, startup, try, try, try, swear, shutdown, startup, try, try, try, REALLY SWEAR, stomp my feet, put away with a great desire the throw XO across the room. Then got on my computer and begged for help again.

Any ideas?
Jocilyn (anonymous- thanks for your response too.)
