[olpc-help] clarifying how to restore

My son's XO has been purely a plaything so far, with nothing really omportant on it, so if it turns out I lose everything, that's not such a big deal. I'm not panicking, but I'm trying to figure out...

Here's what I've done:

1) I updated to build 653 (turns out for no good reason). As I understand it, that should mean that there's a pristine version of 650 still around.

2) I started messing around with the Python Sugar code to try to customize the UI (really just things like colors so far).

3) I musta broke something. When I restarted Sugar, it got into a loop of trying to start Sugar, with just a grey screen, and a Linux login screen, then back to the grey screen, and so on. I did not figure out how to break out of it.

4) So, OK. I should be able to revert to a clean build of 650 by turning the machine on while holding the "O" game key, right? Well, it boots and shows the grey XO-kid, but doesn't get any further than that (unless taking a really long time to restore?)

So, this is a good experiment for me, and hopefully can help me understand better how restoration works. If anyone has pointers/clarification, I'd be grateful.
