I did transfer files from XO AbiWord to Windows AbiWord. The font size and color were maintained, but not the font itself.  I believe the reason was that the XO vs Windows fonts for AbiWord do not overlap much.

You might try HTML.  Less precise that rtf or encoded, but I was able to go from an XO AbiWord HTML file into Windows Word.  

I'll check on fonts later ...
